Heritage Leather Goods, Handcrafted in the Caribbean
Five generations of leather tanning mastery passed down from Cardinal Thomas in 1920s Grenada. Today, we craft premium leather wallets, bags, sandals, and hats that blend traditional Caribbean craftsmanship with modern style.
The Cardi Thomas Story
In the early 1920’s Mr. Cardinal Thomas lived in the rural town of Chantimelle in Grenada with his wife and thirteen children. Mr. Cardinal was affectionately called Cardi by family members and villagers alike. In order to sustain his family he diligently practiced the art of shoe making.
Mr. Thomas had to traverse to nearby town to purchase leather from the Salim family. After careful observation of the tanning process and also following the instructions from a leather tanning textbook sourced and provided by the town’s school principal, Mr. Cardinal Thomas began tanning and dyeing leather to produce shoes.
One of Cardi’s sons, Mr. Clyde Thomas gained knowledge of the leather tanning and shoemaking process via observation and hands on experience. Although Mr. Clyde Thomas did not continue the leather tanning business, he passed on the knowledge to his grandson, Ambokile Adio.
Ambokile adhered to the leather tanning process with great passion so just as his great grandfather, presently providing excellently tanned and coloured leather to be transformed into high fashion leather products. Meeting the needs of the sophisticated Caribbean customers for adorable, durable and comfortable leather products.
